Castlem: Chapter 15

Chapter 15

As Samantha led Victoria and Charlotte to The Teacher, she whispered to Victoria, "Who's the girl?"
"Charlotte O'Conner. I met her in Thieves' Forest a while ago. I took a fancy to her, and she became my traveling companion," replied Victoria.
"But, something about her is different. She reminds me of Her. You know who I mean."
"Yes, in a way she does."
"I miss darling Ms. P."
"Hush, Charlotte can't know who we are talking about or she will ask questions. She's an inquisitive one, that's for sure. I just had a feeling that I needed to take her to see The Teacher. So that's what I'm doing."
"Well, we must always trust our instincts. Dear Ms. P. taught us all that, and look where she ended up."
"No one knows where she is."
"Exactly my point!"
As soon as this conversation ended, Samantha led Charlotte and Victoria into a passageway. They walked a short distance, when Samantha stopped in front of a intricately carved wooden door.
"Wait here," Samantha ordered. "I shall inform The Teacher of your arrival. I'll only be a minute." Samantha opened the door and walked in, leaving Victoria and Charlotte alone in the passageway.
Charlotte turned to Victoria and said, "So, what were you two whispering about?"
"Oh, nothing. Just two friends who haven't seen each other in a while chatting," replied Victoria. From the guilty look in her eyes, Charlotte didn't believe her.
The two of them stood there in silence for a few more minutes, when the door finally opened, and Samantha flew out.
"You may come in," she said. "But, do not say anything that will upset The Teacher. Your presence has shocked her enough, and we don't want anything to happen to her." After saying this, Samantha led Victoria and Charlotte inside The Teacher's office.
The Teacher's office was a circular room. The walls were a light tan color, and they were mostly covered in bookshelves. Charlotte couldn't help but stare at the huge collection of books the Teacher had. Books filled every inch of every shelf, and there were more books piled on the desk and the floor. Charlotte wondered if The Teacher had read them all.
"Yes, I have," a soft but firm female voice said.
"What?" asked Charlotte, turning around.
"You were wondering if I've read all those books. I have." The speaker was a tall, thin woman with small glasses, and a long gray braid down her back.
"Oh, I see. But how did you know what I was thinking?"
"Magic." When the mysterious woman said that, Charlotte didn't doubt her. The woman had bright, piercing green eyes that seemed to hold all the knowledge in the world.
"Charlotte," said Victoria, "this is The Teacher." She gestured towards the woman with the green eyes.
"Pleased to meet you," replied Charlotte to The Teacher.
"The pleasure is all mine. Now, with what Victoria tells me, we have a lot to discuss."
